Floating Beauty explores how women were portrayed in Edo Period Japan (1615–1858) through ukiyo-e woodblock prints. The exhibition features images of women from literature, kabuki theatre, and everyday life—including courtesans, geisha, wives, and mothers—offering insight into their roles and status. While many prints highlight idealized beauty (bijinga), the show also reveals women as industrious and capable, managing households and fulfilling societal expectations with strength and resilience.
